Adult Education
Being able to communicate in English and understand the culture and political system eases adjustment to a new culture, and vastly enhances the enjoyment of being a New Yorker.
To that end, we have expanded our Adult Education program. We offer English as a Second Language, American civics and citizenship, and women’s literacy classes. We help improve interpersonal communication skills, understanding of American culture and literacy skills both in Arabic and English.
We enroll adults of any age with an emphasis on women who have very limited educational opportunities due to cultural constraints. In addition to class participation students are involved in conversation partnerships, in which they can freely communicate with people from other cultures and learn about the rich diversity of American society.
Students are also encouraged to participate in other educational opportunities outside of the center in the community, such as computer training, GED preparation, job training and resume writing.
