The Legal Services Program began as information and referral provider, and has developed into a resource for legal counsel and direct representation. Individuals and families receive advice and assistance on issues related to immigration, including citizenship, green card and visa applications, and authorization for securing employment. Clients may also receive advice and counsel on landlord-tenant disputes and access to public benefits.
The program’s staff members guide clients through the legal system and offer support services such as translation, interpretation, and attending proceedings with clients in court and other government offices. In the interest of outreach to both the community and to colleagues in law enforcement, the courts, and the legal profession, the Legal Services Program develops workshops with other advocates who work to protect the legal rights of immigrants.
