The Arab American Family Support Center is contracted by New York City’s Administration of Children’s Services to ensure the safety of children in homes where there have been allegations of child abuse, neglect and/or maltreatment. The Preventive Program aims to strengthen families by offering assistance and services that lead to improved familial relationships and more effective problem solving skills and coping mechanisms. The program offers the following services:
- Individual and family counseling
- Crisis intervention
- Problem resolution related to cross-cultural conflict
- Information and referrals for entitlements, benefits, and services
- Advocacy at city-wide programs and pro-bono organizations
- Conflict resolution
- Training on parenting skills
- Linkages to community services
The Preventive Program offers a strength-based approach that involves families in identifying their strengths and weaknesses, setting goals, planning services and defining the desired outcomes. One caseworker is assigned to each family to assist them in adapting new ways to solve problems in order to reduce stress and help families tackle challenges they may face in the future.
Our caseworkers speak a multitude of languages, including Arabic, Urdu, Hindi, Bengali, English and French.
