The Manar project was created to address the critical need for culturally and linguistically competent services for victims of domestic violence, teen dating violence, sexual assault and stalking in the Arab American community. Through our partnership with the Brooklyn Family Justice Center, victims and survivors of violence receive assistance in a safe and comfortable environment. The Manar Project offers the following free and confidential services:
- Crisis intervention: Assisting women and girls in making informed decisions and choosing appropriate courses of action during a crisis
- Information and referrals to service providers: access to shelters and safe housing; public assistance; legal programs for family and immigration issues; jobs-training and workforce creation programs; ESL/adult education and literacy programs
- Individual counseling and support groups for victims and survivors of violence
- Empowerment groups for education and prevention
- Court accompaniments and translation assistance on a case-by-case basis
- Community outreach and education, trainings for professionals, awareness-raising campaigns, and advocacy for strengthening and reforming policy
AAFSC is committed to ending violence against women. As a community-based organization, AAFSC strives to raise awareness about domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault and stalking, while aiming to create a safe space for victims of violence to heal and empower themselves.
