AAFSC’s Youth Program helps children and youth achieve academic success and participate in the community. Young people are encouraged to strengthen connections to their cultural identities, while learning about and interacting with youth from other cultures.

For primary and middle school youth, AAFSC provides tutoring and after-school homework help in partnership with volunteers from New York Cares. The curriculum for middle school students is supplemented with instruction on reading comprehension, vocabulary, and math skills. The Youth Program also works with the YMCA to include extracurricular activities for students, including debate, mock trial, and basketball. The College Access Program includes a Kaplan SAT preparation course that is available to high school students free of charge. High school students can also attend workshops on college applications and life as a college student, and career fairs. During the summer, the Youth Program offers literacy activities, field trips, recreation, and art projects. Academic activities are balanced throughout the school year by the Weekend Activity Program, which creates opportunities to visit museums, attend sports events, and participate in workshops for arts and crafts.

AAFSC’s Youth Program helps young people reach out to other youth and promote better understanding of Arab culture. All components of the Youth Program work to develop the great potential for leadership and community service among young people in the Arab-American community.
