AP: Two Decades After 9/11, Muslim Americans Still Fighting Bias

As the nation commemorates the 20th anniversary of 9/11, Muslim Americans remember the enduring impact of rising Islamophobia. In a recent article by the Associated Press, NYC Council Candidate Shahana Hanif shares her experience growing up in the shadow of 9/11, battling suspicion, mistrust, and nationalism – a familiar story for many Muslim New Yorker’s. In 2001, AAFSC expanded to address discrimination, racial profiling, loss of employment, detentions, and deportations against the AMEMSA community, and we continue to support community members cope with lingering trauma. As we remember those lost, we stand united in support of Muslim communities in NYC and across the country.
