The Arab-American Family Support Center Announced as Finalist for Brooklyn Community Foundation’s SPARK Prize, Joining Twenty Nonprofits That Have Sparked Change in Brooklyn, NY

New York, NY— The Arab-American Family Support Center (AAFSC) is honored to announce our selection as a finalist for the Brooklyn Community Foundation’s 2021 SPARK Prize. Launched in 2015, the SPARK Prize honors long-standing nonprofits that spark change across Brooklyn, NY. Finalists and winners are selected based upon their embodiment of the Prize’s four criteria: commitment to equity and racial justice, track record of impact in Brooklyn, strong institutional values, and a dynamic vision for the future of their organization. Of the twenty finalist organizations this year, 80% are led by people of color and 100% are led by women, trans, or gender nonconforming individuals. As a woman of color-led, community-driven, linguistically and culturally competent organization serving vulnerable immigrant and refugee communities in 32 languages, the Arab-American Family Support Center is proud to accept this nomination.

As a finalist, AAFSC will receive a $5,000 donation match grant for their participation in the #BrooklynGives Giving Tuesday campaign, set to launch on November 9th. This campaign highlights the organization’s four priority areas – promote, prevent, get ready, and communicate, which work collectively to provide extensive wrap-around services to families who face unique and compounding challenges and navigate barriers to accessing mainstream services. Ensuring New York City’s most vulnerable immigrant and refugee families have access to food security, mental health support, free legal services, ESOL and civics courses, culturally competent case management services and more, the Arab-American Family Support Center responding to the emerging needs of communities typically rendered invisible.

Thank you to The Brooklyn Community Foundation for their continued support and congratulations to our fellow Brooklyn non-profits nominated for this year’s award. Together, we can ensure that New York’s most vulnerable populations are able to access the care they need and make our communities stronger than ever.
