Columbia University’s Report on COVID-19 and Health of Immigrant Women

November 12, 2021

AAFSC is proud to have informed a new study from Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health. Capturing stakeholder conversations and interviews with community members, this report analyses the impact of COVID-19 on the health and well-being of immigrant women.  Key findings highlight the effects of structural & interpersonal discrimination, delays in access to preventative care, barriers accessing safety net programs, unemployment, and gender-specific factors that disproportionately disadvantage immigrant women. Importantly, this report cites: “Immigrant women, once connected to a social network, found community-based organizations (CBOs) to be an effective mechanism for coping with the economic and social impacts of the pandemic.”
