The People’s Money in Briarwood, Queens

The NYC Civic Engagement Commission recently wrapped up “The People’s Money,” a participatory budgeting program that will send over $1 million to neighborhoods most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Through our involvement in the Taskforce on Racial Inclusion & Equity (TRIE), AAFSC led a participatory budgeting initiative in Briarwood, Queens to collect votes for a project chosen by the community, for the community. Based on the winning results, we are excited to support with the development of community gardens at PS 117 and MS 217 to address food insecurity in Briarwood, Queens.
